Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Worker Scholarships

Scholarship Application Deadline: 11:59pm AWST Sunday 15 March 2026

To submit your application, view the scholarship application form below and email the required information to [email protected]

To be eligible you:

  • Must be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Worker/Practitioner
  • Be living and working in Australasia
  • Are able attend the conference in person from 12 to 14 August 2026 in Walyalup (Fremantle)
  • Have not received a scholarship to attend an ASHM Conference in the last 2 years

Priority will be given to those who:

  • Do not have access to other sources of funding to attend the conference.
  • Have not been to the conference before. 

Scholarship Inclusions:

  • Registration for the conference
  • Return Flights to Perth, Australia
  • Accommodation for the duration of the conference

Community & Lived Experience Scholarships

To be eligible you:

  • Are able attend the conference in person from 12 to 14 August 2026 in Walyalup (Fremantle)
  • Live in Australasia 
  • Have lived experience of hepatitis B and/or hepatitis C and/or be from an affected community or priority population and/or as a volunteer or peer of a non-government community hepatitis and/or peer based organisation 
  • Have not received a scholarship to attend an ASHM Conference in the last 2 years

Priority will be given to those who:

  • Do not have access to other sources of funding to attend the conference. 
  • Have not been to the conference before.

Scholarship Inclusions:

  • Registration for the conference
  • Return Flights to Perth, Australia
  • Accommodation for the duration of the conference

Optional:

  • Scholarship awardees will be encouraged to ‘buddy’ with community representatives
  • Scholarship awardees will be invited to a ‘meet and greet’ with other community representatives

How to apply:

  • Familiarise yourself with the eligibility criteria and application questions. The questions and selection criteria can also be found at the bottom of this page.
  • Use the Submit Application Button to complete your online scholarship application.

Questions (response maximum 200 words for each question – must be submitted via the online application)

  • Describe what viral hepatitis (hepatitis B or hepatitis C) means to you? This could be about your volunteering or work in the sector, your personal interest. 
  • Think about a community that you are a part of or working with, discuss one barrier that people affected by viral hepatitis face, this could be barrier to health care or other aspects of life?
  • What do you hope to learn at the conference? 
  • Provide a brief outline, including examples, of how you will transfer the knowledge you learn at the conference to your community? 
  • Confirm that you will share a reflection after the conference. This can be a written piece or a video/audio recording. 
  • Advise if you are affiliated with an community hepatitis organisation and/or peer based organisation
Terms and Conditions:
  • All applicants must provide accurate information and advise ASHM if their situation changes. Withholding or giving false information may result in the withdrawal of the application. 
  • All scholarship holders will be expected to share a personal reflection of the conference with ASHM within 1 month from the conclusion of the conference. 
  • Applications will be reviewed by a panel that includes community representatives. 
  • No extensions for applications will be provided 
  • Panel decisions are final

Primary Care Clinician Scholarships (GPs, nurses, midwives, and allied health)

Primary Care Clinician Scholarships support GPs, GP Registrars nurses, midwives and allied health professionals to attend VH2026 and strengthen hepatitis prevention, testing, treatment and ongoing care in primary care and community settings.

Priority will be given to those who:

  • Work in rural, regional and remote settings (including outreach and visiting services)
  • Are early in their career (including those in training, recently qualified, or new to hepatitis work)
  • Do not have access to other sources of funding to attend the conference. 
  • Have not attended the conference before.

To be eligible you:

  • Are able attend the conference in person from 12 to 14 August 2026 in Walyalup (Fremantle)
  • Live and work in Australasia 
  • Are a GP, GP Registrar, nurse (RN/EN), Nurse Practitioner, Midwife or allied health professional (or equivalent) working in a relevant setting
  • Have not received a scholarship to attend an ASHM Conference in the last 2 years

Scholarship Inclusions:

  • Registration for the conference
  • Return Flights to Perth, Australia
  • Accommodation for the duration of the conference

How to apply:

  • Your role and setting: Briefly describe your role, where you work, and the hepatitis-related needs you see in your setting or community.
  • Current challenge: Describe one challenge you want to address in hepatitis care, prevention, testing, treatment or follow-up in your setting. Why is this a priority now?
  • What you hope to gain: What are the top two things you want to learn or take away from VH2026 that will help you in your role?
  • Putting learning into practice: Provide a brief outline, including examples, of how you will apply and share what you learn after the conference (for example a workflow change, clinical update with colleagues, local education session, or pathway improvement).
  • Access and support: What are the main barriers to your attendance, and why do you require scholarship support?

Early Career Researcher Scholarships

Early Career Researcher Scholarships support emerging researchers to attend VH2026, build collaborations and strengthen translation of research into policy, programs and practice across Australasia.

Priority will be given to those who:

  • Are based in rural, regional and remote settings, or whose work directly supports rural, regional and remote services and communities
  • Do not have access to other sources of funding to attend the conference. 
  • Have not attended the conference before.

To be eligible you:

  • Are able attend the conference in person from 12 to 14 August 2026 in Walyalup (Fremantle)
  • Live and work in Australasia 
  • Are an early career researcher in a field relevant to viral hepatitis (for example within 5 years of highest research degree award, or within 5 years of commencing a research appointment; career interruptions considered)
  • Have not received a scholarship to attend an ASHM Conference in the last 2 years

Scholarship Inclusions:

  • Registration for the conference
  • Return Flights to Perth, Australia
  • Accommodation for the duration of the conference

How to apply:

  • Your research: Summarise your current research and its relevance to improving outcomes for people affected by viral hepatitis and achieving elimination goals.
  • Development outcomes: What do you want to gain from VH2026 (for example feedback on work, partnerships, methods, implementation insights), and how will that support your next 12 months?
  • Access and support: What are the main barriers to your attendance, and why do you require scholarship support to attend?
  • Translation plan: How will you translate and share learnings after the conference? Include at least two outputs (for example briefing to a program team, stakeholder meeting, webinar, publication plan, policy summary, or service co-design activity).
